In this blog post, we will list 8 songs of the 1960's and their historical connection to the decade.
Throughout the 20th century, the United States was involved in many foreign interventions as there were plenty of conflicts that required interactions with other nations to resolve the issues, such as a variety of wars and international tensions between nations. In this blog post, we will discuss the foreign actions taken by the US during the Spanish-American War, World War II, and the Cold War.
Over the course of this county's great history, there have been many leaders. The President of the united states is often the most powerful man in the world, who is not only the leader of the free world but quite often the protector of the world itself. ALthough this powerful position comes with great responsibility and tremendous strength, there wree a few presidents that shined brighter than the others. On the Contrary, there are also a few presidents who not only did not shine, but also dirtied the great position of the president of the united states. Who are these brave men, and who are these failures??? Find out in this post, about the best and worst presidents in the united states. The indicators for which we will base our rankings off of include national debt increased, Presidential approval ratings, and a special category known as either biggest W, or biggest L, which comprise that president's greatest achievements and pitfalls. 1. Best- George Washington Here George Washington is single-handedly the bravest man in America's history. Not only did he unite a nation to fight against one of the greatest world powers at that time, but he was also successful in his revolution, leading to the birth of this nation. Washington was a soldier all of his life, participating in many battles over the course of his life. When the people of the Americas had realized that their future did not lay in the hands of England, but in their hands themselves, George Washington gave them the strength they needed to overcome the obstacles that were in their way to create a new nation. George Washington was the general of the continental army, and led his soldiers through multiple battles for the sake of creating a new hope for his people, and he was able to do so. First, when it comes to presidential approval ratings, although there was no census at the time, we can assume it was pretty high, given the fact that he was able to create a whole new nation and lead his people to independence. According to a poll made by C-span, Washington was ranked first place for greatest presidential leader, which makes sense given his victories in battle and his bravery. Second, the national debt increase for his time was not recorded precisely. However, all debts before 1913 totaled 1.9 billion, less than the amount we had spent in 1917 alone, meaning that we did not contribute greatly to our terrible debt crisis. Finally, his biggest W. This one is probably a no-brainer, but his biggest W was the creation of the United States of America. Without this major W, not only would most of us not be here, but this blog post would not be happening if it wasn't for him, so hats of to you George Washington! Here are some interesting facts to finish it off. 2. The next best- Abraham Lincoln Coming in at a close number two for best presidents in America is the man with the top-hat himself, President Abraham Lincoln! Lincoln is one of the most famous presidents of all time, not only for his interesting character, but also for his astounding achievements while in office. Not only did Lincoln conclude a bloody war, the civil war, with victory, but he also stopped the succession of the south, making our country united and whole again. Lincoln, unlike George Washington, was not much of a fighter to be honest. Although his military skills were lacking, his oratory skills were most definitely not. He was prehaps one of the best public speakers in the history of all presidents, with many important speeches given. The most important of those speeches include the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, and the Lincoln v. Douglas debates. When it comes to the first set of criteria, approval rating, Lincoln's presidency also did not have a census for this. Although there were many southern people who did not appreciate his acts towards rectifying slavery, many in the north stood by his actions for equality. Also, his popularity was very good in the context of African-Americans. So although his approval ratings might not be perfect, his actions proved his excellence. The next criteria is also unknown, but the same analysis for Washington's presidency can be applied here. All debt before 1913 was around 2 billion, much less than anything in the 20th century, meaning that his contribution to the debt was minimal. However, in the context of the time period, he did increase the debt by a good amount with the civil war. For the third criteria, which was greatest W, was his victory in the civil war and the freedom of slaves. Although these two came at a hefty price, it was well worth it because the only reason our nation is together right now was because of Lincoln's leadership. And to cap it off, some interesting facts! 3. Last, but certainly not least, Franklin D. Roosevelt Coming in at the number three spot for best presidents in American History is Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt had gone through alot in his presidency, including a world war that was one of the bloodiest in American History. However, he took it like a champ and led the Americans to a decisive victory. Not only was Roosevelt looking out for American interests, but he was also a huge part in creating better foreign relationships with many different people from all around the world. With various policies that respected Latin American sovereignty, as well as contributed and supported the creation of the UN so that the international community could finally come together to try and make the world a better place. When it comes to the first criteria, which was approval ratings, Franklin D Roosevelt was doing something right. At his peak, his approval rating was at 83%, which is higher than most presidents. His average for the entirety of his time spent in office was around 63 percent, also an average that was much higher than most presidents ever, showing for good reason why he made it to the top. The next set of criteria, which was the increase in national debt, Roosevelt did increase the debt by a lot. However, the money he spent was as a result of the World War, which was necessary for the defense of our ideals and homeland. Also, his new deal was really good for the economy and structure of America even though it did cost quite a lot, and he added about 236 billion dollars to the national Debt. When it comes to the final category, Biggest W or L, Franklin took both. For example, his biggest W was the new deal and infrastrucutre policies that lead to a more secure America. His L was WW2, but there was nothing that could be done and it wasn't his fault. So overall, good job Roosevelt! Now for that life biography video! Now, the bad guys. The worst of them all, Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson, what a man. After getting screwed over in a different election from a corrupt deal, he went ham in the next election, becoming the president of the United States. Although some may thing of him as a good president, which was shown by his high approval back in the day, we history students can now look back and see how much of an asshole this guy was. Nowadays, if you have a problem with someone, you can talk it out and at worst have a physical fist-fight altercation. But, I would like to think that it is a bad indicator for a president when he challenges people to gunfights whenever he has beef to settle. Now, even if it was older times, this only proves his aggression issues and problems with using words over dueling pistols. Second of all, he did one of the worst things a president has ever done, which was the Indian Removal Act. Jackson's use of force to move all Indians out of the east and into the unknown west was not only twisted and vindictive, but was also highly un-presidential because the supreme court had ruled it unconstitutional. His excessive use of the veto also made him into what his image is today, which is a ruthless tyrant. Even though his approval ratings were high, and his addition to the national debt is minimal in comparison to 20th century presidents, his list of L's makes him the worst president we ever had. Now , a video to show just how bad he was. 2. Next, and certainly not best, was George W. Bush Although Jackson was the worst president of all time, the president that was also really terrible and also had a lasting impact on our generation in the 21st century was George W. Bush. After 9/11, George W. Bush did something unthinkable and was not only one of the most costly and pointless battles in American history economically, but was also very costly in American lives, which was the war on terror. He also did not have many beneficial policies for the people, and mostly got his support from people in support of the war on terror. In the first criteria, whichi s approval ratings, his approval raint was about 62%. Now, to be fair, he used the media and over-exploited the 9/11 attacks so that he could rally support for the war on terror. But, when put in conjunction to high costs, deaths, and the creation of rampant Islamophobia and xenophobia, his support from war-lovers is consistent. The next criteria, which is debt increase, is where he really shows how badly he messed up with his spending. He spent over 5.89 trillion dollar increase on buffing our already over-sized and capable military to go to war with the terrorists, something that is problematic in itself given how much we put in to stop them when their ideology will never lose traction. Finally, in the last category, major L's, George BUsh's war on terror was by far the biggest L taken in a long time. With the trillions of dollars spent, the thousands dead, and the heightened racism and discrimination, it was not worth a single penny. Now, a video of terrible things done by bush. Finally at #3, Not the worst of the worst, but still really bad, Andrew Johnson Andrew Johnson, an American Failure. Although he may have had some alright ideas for a radical reconstruction era, he will never outlive the same of being the first president in US history to be impeached. Regardless of anything that deals with his actual campaign, being impeached is one of the worst things that can happen to any president. Not only did he destroy support for himself while on a tour, but he was a big part in the carving up of the south into 5 militant districts. He was also impeached for a variety of crimes and misdemeanors, and was impeached for that. His approval ratings tanked after his failure on the tour to gain support and his impeachment, and his biggest L is obviously his failure as a president when he got impeached. The only thing that he didn't completely screw up was the debt because the increases in debt were negligible, just as it was for George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. As he was such a loser, he does not deserve an interesting video. I hope you enjoyed this special blog post!

In this presentation, we cover the Revolutionary War and the times leading up to the historical event(Period 2: 1607-1754), the Treaty of Paris of 1783 (Period 3: 1754-1800), and the Louisiana Purchase (Period 4: 1800-1848).
http://prezi.com/dikio4t9bfr9/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy&rc=ex0share The scene is set in 1840, just after Andrew Jackson initiated the trail of tears. It is the dead of winter, and Jackson is in his bed, asleep in the dead of night. Then, Jackson hears a loud moan and wakes upright in his bed. He lights the candle, and walks around his house. After searching all over, Jackson couldn't find where the moaning was coming from. But, when he returned to his bedroom, his bed was torn to shreds, his walls were covered in blood, and on the door the words "Give it back" were written in blood. He begins to panic and he takes out his rifle and yells "whoever did this, come out now or else I will shoot you!" Then, all the candles get blown out, and his rifle falls apart. Behind him, a florescent ghost appears. She is a native-american spirit, with tears running down her face. She screams "Andrew Jackson, you have taken our land and killed our families via the trail of tears and settler colonial ideology. However, if you return all of the land so that nobody has sole ownership of it, we will spare you and your people. If you refuse, however, you and your people will face an eternity of agony and torture!" "Screw you, you brown-skinned trash. I would never give my land back to the likes of you savages!" "Very well Mr. Jackson, now, you shall rot in hell and face burning pain for all eternity at the hands of the spirits of our people!" Then, the spirits of hundreds of Natives flood Jackson's room. The floor turns to burning lava, and Jackson is spread flat on his bed. The Spirits take out large blades and begin to make lacerations to his skin. While that is going on, another spirit de-scalps Jackson, and his body and head begin to bleed. After hours of agony, Jackson finally dies. However, he wakes up and finds himself lost. He looks around, and all he sees is an empty plane. "Well, I must be in limbo because I do not see anything" However, he hears the screams of the dead and the wailing of horses from behind him. He turns around to see hundreds of native spirits chasing after him, and one yells "Oh silly Jackson, you aren't in heaven, you are in hell!" Jackson then tries to run, but knows that now there is nowhere to run, and that he will continue to suffer for the rest of eternity.
